Welcome!
Thanks for your interest in the second Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas. Even with the final season of the Atlas upon us, details for the published Atlas book are already in the works. The published Atlas will provide the most comprehensive account of Ohio breeding birds to date, and will be thoroughly illustrated with full color maps and photographs. State atlases like Ohio’s can be fairly sizeable and expensive books, and thus our goal is to generate funds through a variety of sources (businesses, conservation organizations, and individuals) to lower printing and purchasing costs. We hope to make this important reference available and affordable to as many birders, nature enthusiasts, and Ohioans as possible (expected publication: 2013). Numerous other states have taken a similar approach for lowering the cost of purchasing their bird atlases: most recently, New York and Pennsylvania.
OBBA II and the Ohio Ornithological Society (OOS) have created a sponsor-a-bird auction to generate funds for the Atlas book. During the next few months, OOS will be auctioning each species that will have a full account in the published Atlas book. Winning bidders will be recognized by name as the official sponsor on the species account in the published Atlas book. For more details about what the species accounts and sponsorship will look like, visit the Overview page.
This is your chance to sponsor your favorite bird, support the OBBA II project, and be recognized by name in the Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II book! This fund raiser opened with a limited number of species on May 5th, 2011 to coincide with the Biggest Week in Birding, and will run through 2012. Species were added regularly during the course of summer, 2011.
Through your sponsorships, we will be able to lower the printing cost of the Atlas book to an affordable price for everyone. Now is your opportunity to join other Ohioans in this exciting sponsorship program. View the species auctions for more details on how to bid on your favorite bird today!
Thank you for your interest and continued support of the Ohio Breeding Bird Atlas II.
